Sister Domingas’ work was recognized by American Idol during season 8 and 9 as a part of the “Idol Gives Back” campaign.
On March 2, 2008, Idol singers Elliott Yamin and Fantasia visited the organization’s orphanage and school in Angola as part of the Idol Gives Back special.
On February 2010, Elliott Yamin returned to Angola with former Idol judge Kara DioGuardi to give OCSI a $100,000 grant from ExxonMobil to improve and expand the school created by the organization. The construction of the school as well as distribution of bed nets by the two recording artists was featured on the American Idol Season 9 Top 9 (second week) results show, aired on April 14, 2010.
Yamin and DioGuardi continue to offer their support to OCSI and Sister Domingas after the Idol Gives Back special was over.
